Will Pinoy Big Brother's JB be the next big kontrabida (villain) in the Philippine entertainment scene?

JB was the second evictee from the Pinoy Big Brother House. And the viewers' perception of him is just that--as a villain. In an interview, JB related that he is even afraid to roam around Metro Manila for fear of being assaulted by irritated viewers.

But won't that make JB an effective villain in the movies and television? After all, in the eyes of the viewing public, he's already a villain in the "teleserye ng totoong buhay," or real life's teleseries. How much more if he were to portray the role of a kontrabida in fictional works?

Maybe he won't be the rough-type kontrabida sterotype of Philippine movies and television shows--with the moustached, denim-jacketed, and un-showered look. He seems more of the cool, suave, calculating villain type.

In the interview, JB admitted he wants to try out show business. He currently has a one year contract with ABS-CBN and he is lined up to appear in several shows.

PBB Housemate Nene gets a surprise birthday party from her fellow Housemates. She was unaware of their plans, and they were able to divert her attention from the group while making preparations. The Housemates pretended that Big Brother gave them a trust-building task where the girls were required to be blindfolded and follow every instruction of the male housemates. But of course, only Nene was blindfolded.

In the meantime, the other Housemates were already decorating the living room for the celebration. Nene was caught unawares when her blindfold was taken off after Bob led her from their outdoor/garden "task" to the living room.

The Housemates presented Nene with a birthday cake, a modified "Pinoy Ako" dance number, and a cotillon party.

JB, or Joseph Benedict Magsaysay, is the second Housemate to be evicted in what is dubbed the teleserye ng totoong buhay (reality tele-series), Pinoy Big Brother.

The audience voted 66.3% in favor of Housemate Racquel, who was nominated for eviction the second time this round, and only 33.3% for JB.

Among the Housemates, it was evident that Say was most affected with the announcement of JB's eviction. The other housemates, who previously admitted they disliked JB, were sport enough to settle differences with this temporary parting, and exchanged handshakes and hugs with the very outspoken JB.

In his exit interview with show host Toni Gonzaga, JB said he was happy even if he could no longer aim to win the Pinoy Big Brother top prize of a house and lot, a Nissan 4x4 pickup and PhP 1 million. He was happy that he found the love of his life while inside the House. And he wished Say well, hoping she emerges as the winning Housemate.

Last Saturday, Pinoy Big Brother Housemates JB and Racquel were nominated for eviction by their peers. Tonight is eviction night. So make sure you get to vote for the Housmate you would like to stay in the PBB House.

The twists, as this author sees it: If JB were to be evicted tonight, will we see romance blossoming between Say and Sam? JB seems to have been jealous of the attention Say (as with some of the other girls) has been giving Sam this past week. If it were to be Racquel, then the housemates would be losing one of the more mature and serious-thinking members of the group.

But as to who will stay and who will be evicted, it's up to us, the audience.

The Movie Television Review & Classification Board has ordered the suspension of the hit reality show Pinoy Big Brother for exhibiting scenes that the board deemed beyond the parental guidance classification of the show. Pinoy Big Brother will not air on Sunday, September 25, due to the suspension issued by MTRCB.

... the board has monitored and determined that the episode broadcast on September 19, 2005, to contain scenes, such as but not limited to, kissing scene between housemates Chx and Sam, gyrating dances in skimpy bikini, double entendre dialogue and use of skimpy bikini, to be beyond the parental guidance classification ...

It seems the MTRCB deems the scenes too explicit for the Filipino audience, particularly with Chx and Sam's kissing scene, JB and Say's love story, and the attire worn by the female Housemates.

But what of other shows that go overboard with violence and sexual innuendo? In many instances, suggestive acts are even more distasteful than straightforward ones. There are numerous programs shown in the primetime that feature bikin-clad ladies and double entendre jokes. Even the early evening news programs are filled with violence, crime and sometimes sex, and the MTRCB is not saying anything about that.

At least it's just a one-day suspension, for Sunday, September 25, 2005.

During the Housemates' welcome party for Sam, Chx can't help but find herself flirting with the new hunk in the house. Cass and Uma, setting differences aside, decide to also get hot into the action.

Sam is the new Pinoy Big Brother Housemate.

This hunk from Ohio, USA, says he is of mixed blood: some American, some German, and all that.

Sam replaced Jenny, who voluntarily left the house last Saturday. Under the PBB house rules, a new housemate may be called in to replace any person who leaves voluntarily or who has been disqualified by Big Brother.

Prior to Sam's being called in to replace Jenny, there were speculations that it could be Rico who would be called back in to return to the House.

Sam barely speaks any Filipino, and some housemates are having difficulty communicating with him. But some, like Chx, are warming up to him seemingly as if they have different intentions.

In case JB is evicted in the next eviction night, would Say have someone else to give her attention to?

We'll find out.

JB and Racquel are nominated for eviction in the second round of nominations tonight. For Racquel, this is the second time to be nominated. You would expect this to be another round of tears for her, but she took it strongly. She said after her first nomination experience, she has grown to anticipate this possibility.

But it's a whole different world for JB--or at least for Say, who's grown very close and affectionate to him. It would be primarily her loss, if it was JB who were to be evicted in this next voting round. She will surely miss all those sweet moments (but hey, the sooner they both get out of the Pinoy Big Brother house, the sooner they can get on with the naughty stuff they'd been talking about the past few days).

The housemates and the Pinoy Big Brother fans bid Jenny farewell. She left tonight--during a live telecast of PBB.

She chose to leave voluntarily to accompany her father in his last days on earth. Jenny's father was terminally ill, and had only about six months to live.

It was a tough decision, and Jenny relied on divine intervention for help. She saw the sign, and was happy that someone up there helped her decide. She said she will decide to stay if a guy carried her, and she will quit if it was a girl wo carried her.

All of a sudden, on day 26, Nene lifted her up on their way to the dining room--for no reason at all. That was her sign.

Farewell, Jenny. May you and your family be happy. You did not lose in this game. Things just happened such that you had more important things to take care of. You are a winner to those who are important to you.

Rico Barrera is the first Housemate to be evicted. In a dramatic turn of events yesterday evening (September 10th), the former teacher and the jologs guy won over the hunk.

According to the vote tally, Franzen got 79% of the votes, while Racquel and Rico got a close 11% and 10%, respectively.

An emotional Rico exited the house and was escorted into a waiting pickup truck which then brought him to the ABS-CBN Studio to be interviewed by host Willie Revillame. The crowd was actually surprised to see Rico exiting the House.

The next nomination night is set for this evening. Who will be the next to be nominated?

September 6, 2005--Aureaus Solito's independent feature film, Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros (The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros), wins the Golden Zenith at the 2005 World Film Festival in Montreal.

Local news and entertainment sites identify the award as "top prize," but fail to mention the fact that the Golden Zenith is awarded to first-time feature films. And in this case, Maximo Oliveros is the best among first-time features.

At any rate, the award adds another feather to the cap of the Filipino independent film industry. In an industry plagued by box-office hits but artistic flops due to the formulaic and copycat nature of many movies, those who truly shine are the independent filmmakers who pursue their craft for art's sake.

Evening of day 16, right after bedtime, Cass overhears the guys talking about the girls in what she considered a lewd manner.

She and Say run over to the guys' room to investigate, and they seem displeased with the fact that the guys are talking sexy about one of the girls. Or so they speculate.

Running back to their own room, the men followed suit and attempted to enter the girls' room without announcement, but are caught.

A hot discussion ensueed. Cass seemed to be displeased up to the last moment, until the guys broke the ice and made a laughing matter of the incident.

In my opinion, Cassandra took the whole thing too seriously. I could sense the paranoia.

Or it could just be a publicity stunt.

After all, everyone's watching.

Evening of September 3, 2004, the housemates nominated Racquel and Franzen for eviction from the Pinoy Big Brother House. Big Brother chose Rico for his personal nomination.

Televiewers will now have to vote among the three for the housemate they would like to stay.
